Use of Sealants

Once you have had your driveway or patio professionally cleaned by
H L S, it is worthwhile considering having the cleaned area treated with a sealant.

The reasons for choosing to have the paved areas sealed are summarised as follows:

  • Strengthens & maintains paving performance, as the sand is bonded by the sealant.
  • Reduces surface porosity thereby resisting the penetration of stains
  • Inhibits the growth of weeds, grass, algae & lichen.
  • Helps to prevent the colonisation of ants nests
  • Renders the area easier to maintain in the future.
  • Enhances the appearance, especially older paving blocks.

H L S is able to offer customers a choice of different types of sealant;

Advanced Acrylic Based Paving Sealers

Our sealant is available in a standard drying and a slow drying format. The standard drying format (as used by other manufacturers) is for use in colder weather and allows the sealant to fully penetrate the substrate and jointing sand. The slow drying format has been designed for use in warmer temperatures and again allows the sealant to fully penetrate the substrate and jointing sand before solvent evaporation ensuring that the full joint hardens and not just the top layer

Acrylic based sealers with elastomers produce hard yet flexible clear films. They are non-yellowing and contain a UV absorber to improve protection from ultra violet light.

This provides a barrier to contaminants such as OIL, PETROL, DIESAL, ALKALIS, FOOD STAINING and most common chemicals.

The sealant will increase the abrasion resistance of the surface and also penetrate the jointing sand thus stabilising the joints and preventing the infestation of WEEDS, MOSS, LICHEN, ALGAE and burrowing insects such as ANTS

It is designed to seal the surface and to enhance appearance of BLOCK PAVING, PAVING SLABS and other CONCRETE PRODUCTS. Our range offers the customer a choice of systems and surface finishes to accommodate most areas of application.

Diamond Gloss

Specially manufactured for areas where maximum resistance to petrol and diesel spillage is required such as garage and service station forecourt. Diamond Gloss forms a granite hard film that is highly resistant to attack from petroleum products

Gloss

Seals and protects all types of natural stone, block and paving surfaces. May be used on new, cleaned, horizontal and vertical structures. It yields a durable, high gloss, hardwearing finish.

Matt

As with the gloss but seals and protects with a durable matt hardwearing finish.

All 3 are available in standard and slow drying formulas.
Please note slow drying sealants should only be applied in temperatures of 22C
or above and Standard 13C or above. For the best results it is recommended that two coats be applied,

Tarmac Resurfacing

The benefit of the treatments using various sealants offered for paved surfaces has been dealt with in detail in the previous section, but other surfaces also lose their original texture and colour.
Typical examples of solid hard surfaces that can be restored are:

• Tarmac
• Pattern imprinted concrete

In the case of tarmac surfaces it is possible to not only just pressure wash these surfaces to clean them, but also to treat them with a restoring agent.
Over time through wear and tear the tarmac surfaces can tend to break up a little. With our winter climate in the UK the freeze thaw cycle damages the binding agent, allowing the aggregate to break away and create small holes and craters. To achieve an excellent result we carry out minor repairs before applying the renovator
